I like how to be "fair and balanced" everyone has to make reference to extremists "on both ends" of an issue. And then they use abortion as an example. As if those on the pro-choice side are imposing mandatory abortions on women or something.
I admit I don't have any statistics about where the extremes and middle lie on the abortion issue. Just anecdotal evidence from reading and people I have interacted with.
Just about everyone I have ever met, who isn't a devout Catholic, Born-Again Christian, or Muslim, thinks it should be legal for a woman to choose to have an abortion. Among those basically pro-choice people, there are a couple of extreme pro-choice views that go beyond what many are comfortable with:
* That there should be absolutely no rules against late-term abortions.
* That the government should help pay for abortions.
I've also heard a lot of people express concern about the mythical party girl who repeatedly gets pregnant and has abortion after abortion. I don't even want to acknowledge that concern -- it's just a response to an anti-abortion scare story, often with racist overtones.
