|Pine Ridge campsite: Pine Ridge was a nicely-appointed campsite, even if it was a lot farther from Big Sur than we wanted to be.
At the time we set up camp, we weren't sure at what point we had lost the main trail. I joked to Bruce that some angels would probably hike through our camp in the middle of the night and help us out.
Sure enough, early in the morning, I heard some hikers coming through camp and I yelled a greeting. It was a couple of the younger kids from the family we had met near Pine Valley. They were tired and hungry, out of food, and looking for water to bring back to the rest of their group. We directed them to the springs and gave them whatever food we could spare. And they explained to us where we had lost the trail -- just a few hundred yards back.
